TORRINGTON – The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services on Wednesday alerted residents of a new scam circulating the state, targeting local business owners.
According to a release from DWS, individuals claiming to represent the agency call and inform employers their labor law posters are out of date. The scammers request credit card information in return for the purchase of a new labor law poster.
While the posters are required by law, DWS does not charge for updated placards and will never request credit card information or other payment for the posters, agency officials said in the release.
Torrington Central Dispatch was not aware of any reports of the DWS scam in Goshen County as of Wednesday, however, residents – especially business owners – should be aware the scam is circulating in the state.
As a rule, never give out credit card or other personal information over the phone.
Business owners can download free up-to-date labor law posters at http://www.wyomingworkforce.org/workers/labor/docs/#llp.
